Energy Action launches Energy Price Index for Australian businesses: Unique Index sheds light on retail electricity prices

Launched this week, the Energy Action Price Index (Business) will give businesses granularity and transparency on retail electricity price fluctuations. The Index will be published regularly throughout the year and is based solely on electricity contracts secured for Australian organisations. For the first time, Australian businesses will have access to a realistic benchmark to baseline and compare their retail electricity rates.
Changes to the Clean Technology Investment Program – Now requiring more information

On the 20th December, AusIndustry introduced an updated website for the Clean Technology Investment Program. The main change was an update to the grant application forms for future submissions.

AEMC – Power of Choice review

The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) recently completed the Power of Choice review which explored the possibilities for demand side participation (DSP). The report outlined the use of DSP as an effective tool for the management of electricity consumption and in turn electricity costs. The review was undertaken in response to the lack of clear and effective price signals to the demand side and the inability to respond to such price signals.
Three key reforms can help achieve the efficient demand-supply balance in the market:
- Rewarding DSP in the wholesale market
- Providing appropriate consumer protection arrangements and gradually phasing in efficient and flexible pricing options
- Introduce competition in metering services and develop a framework for smart meters and their services
Energy Action secures $42,569 grant for Diamond Power

On November 14, the Minister for Industry and Innovation, the Hon Greg Combet AM MP, announced the approval of 89 new Clean Technology grants. This takes the number of approved Clean Technology grants to over one hundred in total.
